Making sense of all these resiliency studies!

YES, Red Hook is being intensely studied by the city, state and federal government in the aftermath of Sandy as well as by many academic projects.  Below is a quick overview. The NYS process offers many ways to participate, the Federal process has some.  THe NYC process run by the Bloomberg administration is closed.

New York City

NYC created several post-Sandy reports. SIRR is the most often cited. Red Hook is in The Brooklyn Queens Waterfront Chapter here. Over the fall, SIRR is re-opening two taskforces to get more grassroots community input. Stay tuned for info.

New York State

NYS is running the NY Rising "Community Reconstruction Program" (CRP), an 8-month planning process for 43 areas in the state, including Red Hook, affected by Sandy, Irene and Lee.  Each of the 43 areas has a state-selected committee of community members who will work with, and be a liaison between, the community and the consultants.  Committee meetings are every two weeks on Monday nights at PS15. See our Sandy Calendar page for dates.  The public is welcome to attend. PortSide Director Carolina Salguero is on the Red Hook Committee.

$3MM in federal funding has been allocated in Red Hook, and we can get that if we, as a community, create a fundable plan.  The plan is being created via concepts developed by the committee and the consultants which are then brought to the community in public meetings .  There is room for community input at all times during this.  See links below.  We need a good vision, a good plan, and a good community process to capture the funding.  The time for unity is now!

The US Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), with the support of several foundations, is running ReBuild by Design, a planning process via an international design competition. Our Director Carolina Salguero was on the ReBuild by Design panel in Red Hook.

Two teams have focused on Red Hook and here are links to plans that include Red Hook:

Note, HR & A is also the lead planner for Red Hook's NYS NY Rising "Community Reconstruction Program."
