Last act of our #MaryWhalen83 day. PortSide is excited, after a pandemic hiatus, to be celebrating the 83rd birthday of our ship MARY A WHALEN. Director Allison Prete’s 1999 documentary about restoration efforts of the Gowanus Canal, a waterway where the MARY WHALEN delivered fuel. Opened in 1866, the canal was hailed as "one of the shortest and most important waterways in the world." After decades of industrial use and then neglect, it became one of the world's dirtiest bodies of water, was dubbed "Lavender Lake," and became a Superfund site.
As everyone is not vaccinated yet, seating is limited. We ask you to reserve you seat via this Eventbrite link, paying a $10 fee that will be refunded when you arrive. This fee is to encourage people to really use the reservation. Seats that are not occupied 5 minutes before screen time will be given to people on site.
