Participate in #MaryWhalen83. PortSide’s popular MARY Art Inspiration Day is back after a pandemic hiatus! Are you a painter, sketcher, illustrator, poet, photographer?  You are invited to come create work inspired by our historic ship MARY A. WHALEN and our evocative maritime location on the occasion of her 83rd birthday.

Find colleagues who are similarly inspired. In past years, many plein air painters, and the Urban Sketchers participated. Due to COVID, the interior of the ship is closed this year, but that still leaves a lot of deck and pier.

We can offer digital exhibit space in our e-museum Red Hook WaterStories for work created that day.  If you post your work to social media, please tag it #MaryWhalen83 so we can find it.

We reserve the ship in the morning for artists only. Starting at 12 pm, the public is invited for a raft of programs celebrating MARY A. WHALEN’s birthday.
