We regret to inform you that the Norwegian sloop Restauration will NOT be visiting PortSide from October 15 to October 20 because the NYC EDC insists in charging them $1,500 to visit. They don't the money for this.
On October 9, a fundraising event was held on their behalf on the Circle Line to help fund their trip back to Norway. Victor Samuelsen who proposed that the sloop visited us generously comped PortSide on this cruuse so we can give you a virtual experience of the sloop and the excitement surrounding her visit.
See the Facebook live video here.
The sloop is here to celebrate the 200th anniversary of organized Norwegian immigration to the USA. The descendants A descendants of the voyage 200 years ago are known as "sloopers, " and there are many of them are here today, coming from far away. One was at our concert with the Randaberg yngre mannskor on October 7 - and singing on this cruise.
The sloop Restauration wanted to visit us and we wanted them to visit because Red Hook was long-known as "little Norway" and many Norwegians worked on our ship Mary Whalen.
