Called "the best NYC documentary in a decade" by Hell Gate, “Emergent City” follows the decade-long redevelopment of Brooklyn's Industry City. A microcosm of American democracy, this meticulously-crafted observational film offers a front row seat to the public and private spaces where the city is shaped.
The screening will be followed by a community conversation with the filmmakers and some people in the film about the issues there and how the film relates to the issues here with the replanning of the Brooklyn Marine Terminal (BMT) along the Red Hook and Columbia Street waterfront.
Community conversation after the film with panelists: Marcela Mitaynes (now NYS Assemblymember, then a Sunset Park activist); Antoinette Martinez, one of the organizers of Protect Sunset Park. She was on the community board then, and is now Chair of CB7 Land Use committee. Kelly Anderson, one of the filmmakers.
Partners: PBS POV, NY Film & Video Council.
